Lovely Layering Essentials: Sleeveless Tops (Patterned)

I love layering. It gives me more coverage since I can add loose layers like cardigans or waistcoats and make up for tops that aren’t as opaque as I’d like. And it allows me flexibility – I can make more outfit combinations with less clothes! All in all, I can have lots of fun with it and come out fab and comfortable.

In summer, a useful piece of clothing for skirt-wearing, layering fans like me is a loose-ish, sleeveless top I can wear under light cardigans or blazers. These days I focus on tops that have high necks (because, frankly, I’m fed up wearing my tops backwards to cover the collar area).

For this post, I’m focusing on patterned tops that work nicely under a plain cardigan. Here’s what I’ve found.

1. Cream and Navy Tile Print Swing Top – Apricot

I’m a big fan of blue (anyone who’s read a few of my blog post has probably worked that out). I’m also a fan of tile prints. And A-line dresses, tops, skirts, etc. This is all of those things.

2. Striped Organic Cotton T-Shirt – La Redoute

Simple design, high neck, 100% cotton – that’ll do nicely, thanks.

Also available in navy.

By the way, you can get 25% off this shirt with this offer: 25% Off New Summer Collection at La Redoute – code: SUMMER.

3. Black Floral Embroidered Mesh T-Shirt – New Look

A simple t-shirt with some thread colour thrown in.

4. Warehouse Bandana Print Shell Top, Navy – John Lewis

For a more formal look (although it still works for any context), try this on for size (literally).

I love a good cheesy joke.

5. White Stuff Frilly Sleeveless Jersey Shirt, Hot Pink – John Lewis

This is definitely my favourite of the list. What can I say? I have a weak spot for quirky patterns.

Also available in green.

Matching bonus: Grey Pleat Hem Cardigan – Dorothy Perkins

A light cardigan for spring and summer days.
